Recycled plastic waste can be used to make some fantastic new items. we would like to highlight some of the advantages and disadvantages that need considering when using this material.
Advantages:
- Reduces the amount of waste that enters the natural environment
- Creates jobs for sorting and generates money for goods and services surrounding the recycling process.
- Reduces the amount of energy needed to extract the raw material.
- Reduce the amount of petroleum needed for plastic products
- Reduces the amount of Co2 when compared to producing virgin plastic
- Saving landfill space.
Disadvantages:
- health concerns of toxic chemicals leaching into foods if stored in a recycled plastic container
- Down cycling means that generally recycled plastic is unfit for another round of recycling.
- More environmental damage caused by bleaching processes
